Navimow Terranox vs. Parked Cars: A 3-Acre Install in Chester, MD
The customer left cars parked on the lawn. The Terranox mowed around them like they’d always been there.
We recently completed a Segway Navimow Terranox installation on a beautiful 3-acre property in Chester, Maryland — Kent Island, just over the Bay Bridge in Queen Anne’s County. Big lawns are always a good test of a robotic mower, but this one gave us three things worth sharing: a blade upgrade that adds 33% more cutting edges, a close look at how the Terranox handles tight spaces, and a real-world obstacle test we didn’t plan — the customer had cars parked right on the grass.

The property: 3 acres of thick Eastern Shore turf
Three acres of mixed open lawn, landscaping beds, and a few tight runs between structures. The grass is thick — noticeably dense in several zones — which matters more than the raw acreage when you’re sizing a mower. Dense turf means more resistance per pass, more blade wear, and more time per zone.
It’s not our biggest Eastern Shore lawn — that would be the 12-acre estate we automated near Easton — but thick grass on 3 acres is exactly the kind of job where mower sizing decisions show up in the results.
Why we chose the 3-acre Terranox (and why “oversized” is the right call)
On paper, the 3-acre Terranox — the CM120M1 — has more capacity than this lawn strictly needs. That’s intentional.
Most robotic mower problems we see come from undersizing. A mower rated right at a lawn’s limit has to run nearly every hour it can, leaves no margin for rain days or thick growth, and wears faster. By going with the larger unit, this customer can mow the full front yard and full back yard every single day with capacity left over. When the grass surges in spring or after a wet week, the mower keeps up instead of falling behind.
Our general rule: size for your lawn’s worst week, not its average week. We’ve run the real capacity math on the Terranox before — daily hours, recharge cycles, and what the acreage ratings actually assume — and it’s also why our large-lawn mower picks always leave headroom.
Fitting 33% more cutting blades
One of the more interesting parts of this install was upgrading the blade configuration. The Terranox’s cutting disc can accommodate additional blades beyond the stock setup, which gives you roughly 33% more cutting edges in contact with the grass.
What that means in practice:
- Cleaner cut in thick turf. More edges per rotation means each blade does less work and the cut is more even.
- Longer service intervals. Wear is distributed across more blades, so you’re swapping blades less often.
- Better results at higher cutting heights. Dense grass that would normally get pushed over instead of cut gets handled cleanly.

Handling tight spaces
Large properties usually have at least a few narrow passages — between a garage and a fence, along a foundation bed, through a gate. The Terranox uses RTK positioning plus onboard vision to navigate these, and on this property it threaded the tight runs without bumping edges or leaving strips uncut.
The key is in the mapping. When we set up zones, we map narrow passages as connecting channels rather than forcing the mower to “discover” them, and we set edge behavior so the mower trims close without hitting hardscape. That’s the difference between a mower that works a lawn and one that works your lawn — and it’s the heart of what a professional installation actually buys you.
The obstacle test: cars on the lawn
This was the unplanned part. When we came back to run the mower, the customer had a couple of vehicles parked on the grass.
Rather than move them, we let the Terranox run. It identified the vehicles, slowed on approach, routed around them, and picked back up on the far side without leaving a gap or getting stuck. No manual intervention, no error states.
That matters for real households. Lawns aren’t sterile test environments — there are bikes, trailers, kids’ toys, and sometimes a car that didn’t make it into the driveway. A mower that handles those gracefully is a mower you can actually forget about, which is the whole point. (We’ll still tell you to pick up the garden hose — obstacle avoidance is for objects, not a license for clutter.)
