A $60-a-visit weekly service on a half-acre lawn runs about $1,800 a season and creeps up every year; the Navimow X430 for that lawn is $2,499 plus about $700 to install, then roughly $10 a year in electricity. In cash alone, only if you put a price on your time — the calculator asks what an hour of your Saturday is worth and counts gas, maintenance and the mower wearing out. A half-acre lawn with a self-propelled gas mower is roughly 40 hours of mowing a season, plus prep and edging. What a robot buys is those hours back: it mows a little every day while you don't. Edging stays yours either way.
A 21-inch gas push mower burns roughly 0.4 gallons an hour; a lawn tractor about 1.2; a zero-turn 1.5–2. On a half-acre lawn mowed weekly for 30 weeks that is about 17 gallons for a push mower and 35–45 for a rider — $60–150 a season at typical fuel prices, before oil, plugs, filters and blade sharpening.

Owners who keep a fertilizer program typically cut it by about a quarter; the calculator applies that credit to the robot side only, using whatever you tell it you spend today.
Plan on 3 years as a conservative number — that is what this public estimate uses. The real answer depends on how many times a season the mower recharges, which your lawn size and schedule decide: a quarter-acre lawn barely cycles the pack and it can outlast the mower, while a 1½-acre lawn can wear it to 80% in about 5 years. Not yet. No robot we sell string-trims a bed edge or a fence line, so the calculator never counts edging as a robot saving — if you edge today you still edge with a robot (about 15 minutes a mow), and if a crew edges for you now, that job lands on you. The 2027 models are adding built-in edge trimmers; until then it is an honest line in the math.
