Lopkin L2500 Review: An Affordable 1-Acre Robot Mower With a Tow Bar
If you’re shopping for an affordable robot lawn mower for a 1-acre property, the Lopkin L2500 deserves a spot on your list. I just unboxed and set one up, and it surprised me more than any mower I’ve tested in a while.
The biggest surprise? It comes with a tow bar. That one accessory changes the setup experience for a lot of homeowners, and I’ll explain why below.
Quick take: The Lopkin L2500 is rated for lawns up to 1 acre, retails for $1,499, and includes extras most brands charge for. It’s light, fast and easy to set up. The tradeoff is a smaller, two-wheel-drive design that’s best on flatter lawns.
The tow bar: map your yard without a smartphone joystick
Most wire-free robot mowers make you map your lawn by driving the mower around the edge with a joystick in a phone app. If you grew up with video games, that’s no big deal. But many of my customers aren’t from the gamer generation, and steering a mower with a phone screen can be frustrating.
The L2500 offers a simpler option. You clip on the included tow bar and walk the mower around the perimeter of your yard, like pulling a wagon. The mower records the boundary as you go.
I was skeptical at first. After trying it, I’m convinced it’s the fastest and easiest way to map a yard. No joystick, no learning curve, just a walk around your lawn.
What’s in the box (including extras others charge for)
Lopkin includes several accessories that most robotic mower brands sell separately:
- Tow bar for quick perimeter mapping
- Plastic ramp to help the mower climb a step or small ledge
- Two extra cutting discs, which most brands make you buy
- Extra blades so you’re ready for your first replacement
- Charging station with stake-down pegs
Getting spare cutting discs and blades in the box is a real value. It means lower ownership costs in your first season.
Setup and design: light, simple, fast
Setup is about as easy as it gets. The charging station anchors to the ground with simple pegs, so you can place it and stake it down in minutes.
The mower itself is light and has a built-in carry handle. That makes it easy to move between a front and back yard, lift over an obstacle, or bring into the garage for winter. Cutting height is set with the push dial on top, next to the big red STOP button.
Performance and app
I was impressed by how fast the L2500 moves. For a compact mower, it covers ground quickly, which matters when you’re asking it to handle up to an acre.
The app is well designed and just works. Your yard maps are saved to the cloud, and you can share them with other people. That’s handy for a spouse or family member, or for your dealer when you need help with service.
Limitations to know
No mower is perfect for every yard. Here’s where the L2500 is not the best fit:
- Smaller size: it’s more compact than some of the other robotic mowers we sell. That helps with portability but means it’s not built for rugged terrain.
- Two-wheel drive: without all-wheel drive, it won’t handle steep hills like premium AWD models, and 2WD slips sooner on wet grass, soft or bumpy ground, and curb, ditch or driveway lips.
- Slope limit: Lopkin rates it to mow up to 40% (22°) and climb up to 57% (30°). We recommend it for flat to gently sloped lawns.
If your property has steep banks or rough ground, ask us about an all-wheel-drive option instead.
Who should buy the Lopkin L2500?
The L2500 is our Zippy Pick for flat lawns up to 1 acre. It’s a great fit if you:
- Want an affordable robot mower for a property up to 1 acre
- Prefer not to fiddle with a smartphone joystick to map your yard
- Have a mostly flat or gently sloped lawn
- Want spare cutting discs and blades included from day one
The verdict: the Lopkin L2500 delivers a lot of value for the price. The tow bar mapping alone makes it one of the easiest robot mowers to set up, especially for homeowners who aren’t comfortable with apps.
Not sure which side of the line your lawn is on? Our free lawn mapping tool measures it from satellite. If it’s under an acre and reads flat, it offers the L2500 beside its main recommendation, with the 2WD limits spelled out.
