📏 The ⅓ rule — Never remove more than a third of the blade in one cut. Cutting deeper shocks the plant, browns the tips and stalls the roots — it's the #1 cause of a lawn that 'looks worse after mowing'. A robot mowing daily removes millimeters, so it simply never gets near the line.
Buffalo Grass evolved on the open prairie: 2–3″ mowed keeps it tidy while leaving enough leaf to feed its famously deep roots — or skip structure entirely and let it flop at 4–6″ for the soft meadow look. What it never needs is pampering.
Pattern note: Less is more: buffalo thrives on neglect. Wide, even passes at a consistent height; it doesn't build thatch and rarely needs anything else.

Honesty note: mowing suppresses weeds, it doesn't erase the ones already established — a deep-rooted dandelion will keep trying from below. But interrupt seeding for a season or two while the grass thickens, and the balance shifts visibly. For stubborn cases, spot treatment plus the robot's daily interruption beats blanket herbicide every time.
A weekly mower takes an inch or more off the lawn and leaves clumps you rake or bag. A robot cuts every day, so it only ever removes a few millimeters — clippings so small you'll never see them. That's micro-clipping (you'll also hear 'mulching'), and it's not a side effect: it's a feeding program.
